Farrow and Ball - this white or that cream or this off white or this creamy cream?

How are there so many different shades of white and cream?!

Anyway I'm worried I've made a big mistake
Our kitchen is currently being manufactured.... and I've got this horrible feeling (after getting another paint sample last night) that I've chosen the wrong colour!

Our kitchen will be Walnut and Handpainted Cream.

We have chosen Pointing to go with the Walnut

But then last night I got a White tie sample pot for our wardrobe cupboards... now I'm thinking should we have had that...

I thought Pointing was creamier than White tie but it isn't. Pointing actually is quite white.
The only thing with White tie is it looks quite yellow.

Our room is open plan (approx 6m x 10.5 metres) and really light.

Has anyone had any experience with these paints in a kitchen or even with walnut?

I've spoken to the kitchen guy and it is too late to change the paint without paying extra labour for it to be painted the White tie. But I would do that to make it look better!

We can wait until it is installed and then make the decision but I really want people's opinions.

We've been doing this kitchen for months and can't believe at the last minute I'm having this dilema!

Thanks for all your help

I just happened to have my F&B chart next to me Grin

Walnut has a lot of colour to it and you could find white tie has a little too much colour in it and could compete with the natural hues in the wood where pointing is a little more neutral and could allow the walnut to really 'sing'.

Pointing will always look cleaner and brighter due to the lighter shade. It also has a gorgeous warm undercurrent where white tie is more obviously coloured.

How much natural light does yor kitchen get?

A lot! It spans the width of the house so has sun all day (the front of the house is approx east facing and the back south west/west say)
We have 1.8m patio doors, 3m bifold doors and 5 windows. So yea it has a lot of light to it!

You are right actually, the white tie does have more colour to it in comparison to pointing that is more fresh.

All that natural light on pointing will bring out its colour and set the walnut alight, it sounds beautiful

OK you seem pretty confident that I've made the right choice then. That's good. I do feel a bit better. Not that it's a worry if we change it other than the cost.

You seem to know your stuff!

Keep the Pointing! In my last house we had a long, bright kitchen with pointing units and a maple worktop. The pointing actually looked quite creamy, it had plenty of colour in it.

Thanks kitsmummy. I'm feeling more and more assured.

I have white tie on the walls of my very light kitchen. It looks nice, but is yellowy. I would prefer pointing, which I have painted on the walls and paintwork of my daughters' flat, which again is very light. Pointing is a more subtle colour, and will look really nice.

Would you all say Pointing is better for our wardrobe doors too and not White tie?

Depends on the other colours in the room. Are you able to see the kitchen first and then decide? I share your pain. I'm rubbish at decisions, and it took a thread like this for me to decide on pointing in the first place!

kerryxx · 30/05/2013 11:48

Not really as they are going to do the doors to install the same time as the kitchen as the same people are doing them

I think judging from people's reactions on here, Pointing seems to be the one doesn't it! I just don't want it to look too white.

In our room we have medium-dark wood effect tiles on the floor. The bedstead will be wood too and the bedside tables. I'm then getting him to frame the wardrobe in wood to link it in with the bedroom furniture.
I've decided on painted wardrobe doors to make sure we keep it light in the room as we are blocking off one window with them as I want a walk in wardrobe!

Any photos you can share of the after? I have the same Q!
