Boiler Cupboard

Our boiler is in the bathroom and we want a cupboard built around it. The cupboard will be floor to ceiling and will have two doors, one to the boiler and another with shelves behind it. We have been quoted 470 for tongue & groove with mesh type doors (think the sort of thing you see on radiator covers). This price is for materials, building it and fitting it. I would be interested in peoples opinions on the price?

Depends on the quality of finish/materials. Tongue and groove and a few bit of hardware aren't that expensive- you're mainly paying for the labour. Bit pricey IMO.

How old is the boiler?

Boiler is a week old.

Dh read something about ventilation for boilers and i didn't want a door which was slatted so went for this instead.

Modern boilers need a little room around them so the cover can be removed for maintenance, but a gap or hole in the top and bottom of the enclosure should give plenty of ventilation.

Have a look at the manufacturers instructions which should describe what is needed.

Most important to make sure the cupboard meets the requirements in the manufacturers instructions.

Also clearance distances so engineers can get at it to service and repair - you'd be surprised how many cupboards we see that have been built giving no access to boiler and need to be ripped out!

The price might be OK - get quotes from others for the same job if you are not sure. And get a heating engineer to check it is OK before it is built if you are not sure.
Did the installer advise you on the cupboard details?

Carpenter is gas engineers Dad so no worries there and the door will give complete access to the front and underside of boiler. There is a gap of about 1.5 ft from boiler to the door.

i meant, you don't have to have perforated or louvred doors unless you want to.
