Replacing kitchen cabinet doors and worktops instead of full refit, advice needed

We need to do something about our kitchen. We inherited it when we moved to the house 6 years ago and now several doors are falling off hinges and it generally looks tired. I am happy with the current layout and tiling and wonder if it would be worth just replacing doors and worktops and then getting a decorator in to repaint. Has anyone done this instead of doing a complete rip out and start again job and do you have any tips?

Watching this thread as hoping to do the exact same thing.

will be doing something similar next week. New sink and taps, new slightly longer worktop, new wider drawer unit, double wall unit and possibly replacing some tiles. The fronts will not be an exact match although the old drawer handles will be used. The wall unit will be in dining end of kitchen so different doors not such a problem. Best I can afford. I'll let you know how it goes

Trees - where did you get all the new bits? Eg new sink etc.

You will struggle to replace the work tops without damaging the bottom row of tiles

Have a good look at where the hinges attach to the cabinets -is there any sign of them pulling or being loose?

Remove your kick board and have a look at the cabinet legs -do they still look in good condition?

It's often false economy replacing door fronts as the cabinets then need replacing before the doors need replacing again

I would be tempted to get a quote on a replacement kitchen which may not be as much as you think and then see if it is viable

Chickensaladagain, I'm not so bothered about the cabinets needed replacing before the doors as we might move in next few years before that was an issue but retiling would be a pain. Have only had one quote so far, from a company that specialises in replacing doors and worktops and it was £2,800 supply and fit. treesntrees, will be interested in how it goes for you.

We did it last year.

The kitchen had been in for about 10 years? Just IKEA stuff.

We replaced all the doors, plinths and side panels with IKEA again, perfect as the fittings all worked.

We didn't replace the wprktop.

I painted the tiles. Replaced the mixer tap.

Just a quick fix as we put the house up for sale.

It made a big difference to the appearance and feel of the kitchen for a fee hundred pounds rather the many thousands we had been expecting to pay for a whole new kitchen.
