Any good central London shops for home knick kanck type stuff?

Cooper, not really sure about style/what to class what I want. I'm not into really modern stuff. Just kind of quirky/things that are a bit different without been really way out.

One thing I'm looking for is a footstool and I'll know it when I see it. Rectangular with wooden legs with the legs coming out at a bit of an angle/slant rather than straight down.

BHS are surprisingly good for cheap lighting, you might be able to save money there to spend on nice stuff elsewhere, ditto IKEA of course, especially if you're prepared to personalise.

Vintage is always worth a look, loads of antiquey / retro shops all over the place. Lassco at Vauxhall is fun for a rummage, or Old Cinema Chiswick.

I want more unusual stuff so wanted to avoid BHS/ikea.

I've only got about 5 hours in London on Friday so any vintage shops within easy reach of Kings Cross would be good.

Where is Vauxhall?

Vauxhall is too far. Have alook at Camden Lock - it's only one stop from Kings x on the northern line. However I would google Camden lock first to check the shops sell the sort of think you're after

Vauxhall is South Of The River , but on the Victoria line so actually very quick & easy to reach from Kings X.

The place at Vauxhall looks like more of a reclamation yard with bigger items rather than smaller stuff. Chicwick old cinema looks good.

Yes, Lassco is good for ideas and has some nice smaller bits (the website specialises in the big stuff), but admittedly given your short time span the hipster retro roads of the north/east/west with several small-medium shops might be more efficient use of time.

Lambs conduit street is good for a wander. I love Ben penreath for bits and bobs and there's a fab French place around the corner.
Also love liberty home depts and Zara home is pretty good if you don't have one where you are.
If you want proper vintage you need to either go east around Columbia road or church street off lisson grove is amazing but not cheap. Or of course portobello.

If you're not after new stuff, and aren't on a shoestring budget, it might be worth a trip to Alfie's Antique Market. Church St, Marylebone - very easy to get to from King's X. They have masses of stalls, a very nice cafe/restaurant on site, and it's a great place for a browse.

Northcote Road Antiques Market and Quirky Dovetail in Battersea and Balham respectively are good. Brissi, also Northcote Road and Kings Road is nice but not cheap.

GTC (general trading company) - though not cheap - old and new quirky pieces plus Indian/oriental stuff. I think there is still a branch on Holland park ave (central line tube about 15min from Oxf circus), but one near South Ken has closed.

Abigail Ahern on Upper Street N1. Since moving oop north I still have to make a bi-annual pilgrimage to her store.She's a genius.

Regents park road in primrose hill has some really nice shops. Including Graham and green which is a bit more mainstream and you can see their stock on the website before you make a trip.

Upper Street, Islington as mentioned above - I love try Aria (on Barnsbury Street, just off Upper Street), After Noah, Twentytwentyone, , Chest of Drawers, Little Paris, plus various others on Cross Street. Either get tube to Angel and walk up Upper Street, or Highbury and Islington (both very easy from Kings Cross) and walk down. Also Ottolenghi there for yummy healthy lunch and various interesting clothes shops too.
