One is town centre though and one is 10 miles away? Surely the location question is paramount?
I prefer 1 (from what I can see on my phone)

Sizzle, I'd rather live in the town centre one while DH would rather live outside so we're a bit torn
Lynette, the garden is pretty average, needs a lot of work but the schools are good i went to them myself and enjoyed them so i'm a bit biased
the only downside is the lack of parking as its in the centre :(

I think you'd need to check out how much new sash windows would cost.

I think long term you would make more money on house 1.

I've lived in both types of house, and I can see if you have a newborn/toddler house 2 would be easier for now.

But I'm really liking house 1. Is there no rear access parking? Could you knock down that building at the bottom of the garden and park there?

Like 1 more. House 2 is a bit too kind of plain and neutral for me. I would rather start from scratch (if you have the money) and it has 7 bedrooms!!!! Is that right?

Are you project people or not? We're not and although house1 will be amazing one day, we're not the people to,do it. Consequently, we would choose house 2, as its already done. It just looks plain from the outside.

Also, consider the location. Which do you prefer? What is better for your jobs, shopping, schools, etc? What about the future - how long do you want to live there. Finally, have you visited them? Which has the right gut feeling?

Do not throw it into a skip, should you happen to buy the house!

1 could be lovely but it looks like a really big project. Kitchen, bathrooms, heating, probably rewiring, possibly a new roof and windows. Not for the faint-hearted!

House 2 = no character at all but maybe good for practical reasons

We bought practical house with zero character. I have regretted it ever since.

Heart says house 1, head says house 2.

House 1 is beautiful (and could be even more so). Would parking be an issue with house 1? Is it in a noisy location? What would you do with seven bedrooms? Do you have time, energy, money to take it on? Heating and maintenance might be high. You could probably make money once done up.

House 2 is very plain on outside but at least it's done. You would only have to fork out for cosmetic changes if you wanted to. Are there amenities near by? Would probably be cheaper to heat than house 1. Not sure you could add much to the value of this house.
