Rubberwood work tops

Hi, has anyone used rubberwood for their kitchen worktop? A friend has and loves it (I thought it was oak). Think you you can get slightly different shades & MUCH cheaper than other hardwoods. After some more info or problems encountered ! Thanks

I don't think I've seen it as worktops, but it is often used for hardwood flooring. It is harvested from old rubber trees when they reach end of life and new ones are planted so is very sustainable.

It is also sold under the name of Parawood.

I did once consider making up a kitchen worktop with the varnished floorboards, I imagine it would be pretty durable.

best price from homebase as solid boards

I've just picked up on this thread. Gav1 - it would be helpful, if you can spare the time, to comment on what you think of them. I'm getting desperate to find a new worktop, as the building works are progressing. My main concern with rubber wood, and any wood worktop is the effect of water round the sink
