Hello all.

First time poster' long time vouyer!!!!

We are currently considering two houses, both in the same road, but very different. The more expensive one (it says under offer on RM but told its not now) is in a slightly better spot, is quite a bit bigger, but has a smaller garden and is not as quirky, although very practical for our growing 4 kids family. It would be a stretch, but doable.....

I have seen you guys help with this kinda a quandry before, and have liked the honest feedback received....

Please do your worst, which one, (if any), do you all prefer??

Well, I prefer the first house, but I may just be dazzled by the shiny bling of the second. Try to imagine both stripped out, redecorated and full of YOUR furniture: does the taste gap get a bit narrower?

Much prefer the second, more expensive one. It has a great garden and the rooms look a good size and of a good shape. Cheaper house seems dark and rooms seem smaller?

Thanks, yes agreed that the decor of the bigger one is a bit much......

Stripping it all back, level pegging!!, although just seen that the first one has a north facing garden and the second a south.....another consideration!

I am glad you say it has a great garden, as to us, current garden is 120ft!! (Albeit on a ridiculous slope) - we were worried it was a bit small...

Do you think it looks a bit bland from the outside?...... We prefer older period homes, but where we live they a few a fair between and come with a compromise, like main road, semi, no garden!,

I preferred the first house as the garden has more character. It looks nicer from the front too. This is the first time in my life I have ever picked the cheaper option so maybe I'm overtired and not thinking straight. Grin

Hmm, tricky one; the living room in the first one is tiny but the kitchen is nicer (don't like the clinical, all white look of the second)

The garden of the first one looks nicer imo.

All in all, I think the first is nicer.

Thanks for the opinions so far, interesting that no.1 is ahead - we were leaning toward no2 on the basis of size and potential.

Agreed that the kitchen looks like a dentist surgery, but it's got potential.

Hmmm...,a lot to ponder....

Hmm - its a tricky one! I prefer the first house (it seems loved which i know is daft), but if the second one has a south facing garden...

For me its the second one, no question. The south facing garden clenches it. Sitting outside in the sun on a summer evening. Done deal.

Also, the huge big tree or hedge or whatever it is in the front of the first house would put me off.

The second one is rented I believe, perhaps why it does not feel as warm as the first.

The south facing garden could edge it...

Space and south facing garden definitely win out, especially with 4 children! The decor is nicer in the first but that's easily changed - it's difficult to add more space and impossible to change location and aspect.

I alos prefer period homes but it's probably worth compromising on. Fr me, space wins out over everything if you are a large family.

I prefer the cheaper one too. It's a better looking house and the layout seems sensible. The garden is nicer too.

Bedroom 5 in that 5 bedroomed house is tiny but I prefer that house to the 6 bedder.

I much prefer 6 bed house.

Slopey roof on the first house could lose you space.

Ok - so it's virtually 50/50 split......

Still leaning with the 6 bedder - although more worried about it's frontage, the other one may have more kerb appeal - can we make it look better ?

The first house is adorable; I don't like the second one at all.
