Sofasofa - anyone bought a sofa from them? Interested to hear what they're like

We've just started the hell that is 'sofa shopping'.

Did the rounds of sofa shops yesterday (they varied from plain old dull and unimaginative, to stupidly pricey, to crap quality, to ones that had bloody ipod docking stations in FFS!).

I've heard good things about Sofasofa and we're about 90mins drive away from their showroom so could go and try before we buy. In the meantime though I was interested to hear any experiences .

The prices seem very good but wondered if they lasted well?

I've got a sofa and chair from them. Perfectly happy with them. Wish I could have tried first as the style means they look good but aren't as comfy but I don't blame sofa sofa for that. Would use them again. My sister recommended them.

NorbertDentressangle · 08/04/2013 15:26

Thanks Alice.

Can I ask which style you have as I'm torn as I like the look of some but not sure if they're as comfortable as the more traditional ones?

I've had two of their sofas for about six years and have been more than happy with them. I'd buy from them again. They have regular sales, at least twice a year, so make sure you order when they have one on.

diamanteasbigastheritz · 08/04/2013 15:53

We had 2 sofas from them about 7 years ago which have served us well.

We had the most basic fabric covered one. The style is called Madrid I think. Purchase and delivery was all very uncomplicated.

They are now pretty knackered and have been relegated to occasional use in the bedrooms, but stood up to daily use for at least 5 years, which for about £400 the pair was pretty good going.

The company were recommended to us by a friend who swears by them and has convinced pretty much all her friends and family to buy from them. Definitely worth the trip IMHO.

We've got a Cardiff. If you look the arms are right angles to the seat. Look very nice but not comfy to lean on.

NorbertDentressangle · 08/04/2013 18:52

I see what you mean about the arms Alice.

One of our conditions is that they have to be comfortable to lie down on as once the DC are in bed DP and I tend to have a sofa each and stretch out!

We've had leather sofas (from the sofa sofa Thomas Lloyd range) getting on 10 years now. Brilliant and comfortable. i think they will last for ever. They were called Portland, it looks like the Portofino are similar.

We went to the showroom in the days when they had a Birmingham one and chose the most comfortable. The one I initially had my eye on was not that good, it is so hard to tell without sitting down.

Sofa-sofa carry stock from a consortium of several manufacturers so there is a big variety in price and quality. But I'd recommend them if you can make the trip. No problems with ordering and a good price IIRC.

We've got one and it's fine. I do remember that they were very pleasant to deal with - great customer service.

NorbertDentressangle · 09/04/2013 11:40

Glad to see its all positive views here.Definitely worth a trip then.

Only problem will be agreeing on a style and colour as we fancy something a bit less dull than our current ones but , at the same time, need something comfortable and that we'll still like a year or two down the line Hmm

Had Divani ones years ago brilliant sofas lasted years far superior to my subsequent more expensive big brand ones.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/04/2013 17:36

We have a two seater and a 'love seat' - both very comfy. We went to the showroom thinking we knew what we wanted and fell in love with a completely different suite! Had good service from them.

NorbertDentressangle · 10/04/2013 17:43

Just out of interest, those of you who have bought from there....which styles/models did you buy?

Just nosey interested to see if traditional are more popular or if people are adventurous

Another postive review here, we got ours 4 years ago and still going strong, no idea what style but it was a Divani one?

Pancakeflipper · 10/04/2013 17:49

I have a comfy chair from there in my kitchen. Didn't go to see so it was a gamble. A good gamble. Comfy, the cat loves it and my children clamber over it when they think I am not looking.

Worth the cost. But they messed us about with delivery.

Sitting on a marlow right now. Very comfy and seems to be lasting ok.

We wanted one that had a high back for slumping on in the evening. Also our last sofa (not from sofasofa) had recliners and was very heavy and the seat cushions didn't last very long.

uggmum · 10/04/2013 18:07

I have previously purchased 3 different sofas from them. They have worn well and the quality has been great.

I've just given 2 away (they are 8 years old and have plenty of life left in them) and I've ordered a new sofa, chair and footstool. They are called 'Lucca'. I'm just waiting for delivery.

fossil971 · 10/04/2013 19:44

Actually this is our one, it's still available from Thomas Lloyd. Exactly the kind of dull brown leather sofa spurned on MN and found in about ten million homes I guess!

BetsyVanBell · 10/04/2013 20:14

We bought a 'domino' - we paid extra for the covers to be stain resistant which has worked really well - it has loose covers which wash easily. However, it's stopped being comfortable quite quickly and I've had to put an old duvet under the cushions to make it softer. We've had it 5 years and it's time to replace it. The upright rightangle arms were a bad idea too - no lounging on them! If we'd have tried it out before buying we wouldn't have bought it, but it was cheap and has suited our needs ok and it has had 2 toddlers jumping on it repeatedly! Ordering and delivery was painless.

cazzab777 · 21/10/2015 20:58

Have to say worst experience I have ever had with a company. I had issues with the loose covers shrinking and zip ripping - supplied photos. They were awful and only conversation they would by email was have was picking up WHOLE sofas (without replacement, without agreed return time) to take away to "investigate". And then - without my consent (actually against what I said) they sent their lorry round to take my (fully paid for sofa) away. Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Sofas look shabby and damaged in 6 months. (My previous sofa lasted 8 years)
