Now! In what still feels like the middle of winter! I'm so annoyed.
So last year, our first summer in this house, we appeared to have masonry bees (at least I think they are masonry bees, I kept seeing them fly into the outside wall, and there's no nest in the attic) who kept making their way down the chimneys. We have a fireplace in both the living room and dining room, both apparently open, so about 6-8 dozy bees a day would fall down the chimneys and stagger around the house until we scooped them up and put them outside.
Our first bee has just divebombed down into the living room.
This year we now have a newly toddling little person who will undoubtedly sit on, kneel on or eat the bees when they appear, and if its anything like last year they are dozy enough to be caught occasionally.
Does anyone know what we can do? If I remember right from random Googling last year they're not the kind of bees a beekeeper will take, so I assume our only way is to seal the fireplaces - which we won't ever use - right above the fireplace. I'd rather it was something a bit solid than just ramming the gap with netting or fabric, because then I imagine we'll just end up sitting here listening to the bugger buzzing sadly away...
