I have just moved in to a rental property and have never rented before.
The house is great. The landlord re-decorated throughout and also put down new carpets throughout.
There were a couple of snagging problems which have been dealt with but I have one problem and could do with some advice.
The kitchen has a single glazed (half glass/half wood) door. The lock is jammed and will not open. There is also a significant gap around the door - it's almost like the door needs re-hung. Unfortunately, because we can't unlock it we can't actually get the door off its hinges. I sent the following email to the managing agent:
''There is a large gap at the bottom of the back door together with gaps around the edges allowing (a lot of) cold air in''.
And this is the response I got:
''If you wish to fit draught excluder this is acceptable, the door has not opened in years, we will ask the carpenter to look but as there are French doors allowing access to the garden this is adequate''.
It's not the access that is the problem, it's the gap around the door. The carpenter had a look at the door today and said he would advise the agent that a locksmith would need to attend but I have had no feedback regarding these comments.
Am I entitled to go back and demand this gets sorted? If so, how do I word an email that is firm but doesn't annoy anyone (only took on the property on Saturday).
