Given the option which type of hob would you go for? I'm assuming an electric multi-function oven would be best, but on top?

Gas / Induction / Ceramic???

And why? We've got ceramic at the mo which is fine, but am possibly getting the option of gas so wondered if you'd choose gas in principle - I would but am wondering if Induction is the way forward. FWIW most of my pans are Le Creuset and Circulon.

Hmm, are you talking about cookers, hobs or ovens?

A cooker to me is a hob and oven in the same appliance.

Wouldn't go for ceramic hob - induction or gas are better. We are replacing our hob soon and I'd almost decided to switch from gas to induction, as everyone who has done so raves about them. But I'm not sure if induction is as intuitive as gas. And then, when we had a washing machine repair man round recently, I mentioned induction hobs to me and he said, "Don't do it! When they go wrong they're really expensive to fix." So now I'm leaning back towards gas again.

I'm just fed up of electronic things going wrong!

"to him", of course, why would I mention them to myself? Confused

Induction is lovely, instant, easy to clean, cleaner than gas, streamlined into the side.

I mean an all in one unit - but wondering what combination to go for.

I used to love gas, but have got used to the cermanic which is of course easy to keep clean - but now have the option of gas again - which I've been longing for, but on searching for cookers, induction has come up and I've been a little thrown by it....

We were making a similar decision and in the end gas won for us. Induction is still fairly new technology and I was wary of how long they last. I think this is even more of a consideration if you get an all in one unit. The induction hobs we liked were also double the price of the gas hobs we liked. Finally I like the backup of gas if the power goes out, being able to still make a cup of tea is nice.

I'd still go for Gas Hob, Electric fan Oven combination:
I like them to cook with (I know what they do, responsiveness, quirks etc)
I like that gas hob still works with no electric (veteran of many power blackouts)
Our SS range has a black 5 ring gas top and is fine to clean, I've not seen as many with black tops but I'd def go for it again as it's scrubbable which I'm not sure SS would be as good for.
