Mounting a tv on a wall

If we could get rid of the tv cabinet thing we'd have a bit more precious space

But what happens to all the leads and cables. I've googled and seen that if you have stud walks you can feed them through holes made in them. But our walks are solid

I've seen trunking stuff to cover the wires but that looks like replacing one thing with another equally visible

If you get in an electrician, and had new wires buriec ( Confused )or whatever then presumably there'd be replastering and redecorating. And then what if you needed a new tv and it didn't fit the old whatsits

Am I missing something?

If you did get a new tv you can just get the correct bracket to re-fix to the wall.
most tvs fit most brackets anyway as long as you have the correct screw to go in the back of your tv.
you can get an electrician to chase all the cables out and will need plastering and painting. but if you want less mess (dust) and have the space in the room you can just baton the wall with 2 x 2 wood (2cms) and the plasterboard 1cm or what you select, then feed the cables behind, then plaster and finish.

Wha? A whole new wall? I might stick with the tv unit

Having the cables chased in isn't so bad (as long as the wall isn't papered or anything). Once it's done it will look really neat.

The wall is 100 years old. It probably has about 15 layers of paper and may well crumble to dust if I did try the chasing in thing

Although it does need decorating....

Will tv's on walls be terribly 2010's ish I'm a few years? We'll probably have stuff built into our eyes instead
