How much do new windows cost, roughly?

Hello

We recently bought a house that has dodgy uPVC double glazing at the front and decent new uPVC ones at the back. The ones at the front need replacing because they don't sit flush against the frames in some places and are pretty bloody ugly - think dark wood plastic frames and some silver coloured leaded patterns on the top bit's that open.

I'm struggling to find rough ideas of costs online - everywhere requests your details for quotes and I don't really want to be subjected to phone calls or visits and given the hard sell.

This isn't our 'forever' home but I think we'll be here for the next 5 years or so so whilst I want them sorted, I don't want to pay the earth.

There's 2 windows that are 90 x 60" and one that's a lot smaller (they have a 52" drop curtain on them and that's ample - possibly 40" width)

Can anybody give me a rough idea of cost? I really have no idea on how much they cost, at all. I'd like them to match the back of the house, which has a light oak upvc frame and normal white on the inside.

Do you know who made the ones at the back. Any windows should be installed by a FENSA regulated company and should have a guarantee therefore you should have had the details supplied to you when you purchased the house. Can you fins this out and then you would be sure that the new ones would match the ones at the back?

I'm paying between £250 and £400 a window for coloured UPVC and A rated glass. Small ones are the hall/landing, large ones bedroom for a rough idea of size.

We have large 60s windows that have so far cost about £500 each to replace, local joiner, family friend so I know we're not being ripped off. They are about 2.7 metres wide.

Just make sure you get a local fensa contractor round to quote, they should quote you per window.

Avoid the national companies like the plague.

PS We've just paid 2600 for one very large box bay, 3 fairly large windows and 2 small panes. That's on the high side I'd say, you could probably get a bit cheaper dependent where in the country you are.

better she couldn't find the guarantee so took an indemnity policy out for the back windows although I'm fairly sure that she went with a local company after looking at their range online.

Thank you all, for your info. It's good to have a rough idea of price.

I think you can get a replacement cert if you contact fensa directly.
