Kitchen cupboards to the ceiling - can I do it on a budget?

I really don't want a gap above the wall cupboards in my new kitchen. Am heading to 3 kitchen companies to do planning next week and was wondering if I can ask them to put their regular cupboards up to the ceiling? Obvious issue is them being so high you can't reach anything in them (I am 5.9 but still!) and I wonder if this is why people go bespoke, because they have longer wall cupboards for this purpose? The other option is whether should I panel in above the cupboards instead? Has anyone done this and if so how much did it cost extra?

So the 90cm cupboards will reach the ceiling? Am trying to figure out where they 'start' above the work surface?

We have a tall larder unit, 233 cm and the top of our 90cm cupboard is level with this, leaving a small gap (7cm) that is boxed in So the bottom of the unit is 1.4m high, and approx 45cm above the work surface (95cm) We have four shelves in ours and I can reach all but the top one without a stool (I'm 5 foot 4). We keep rarely used glasses on the top shelf.

there 2300 off the floor
to line up with any tall appliance units or larders
if you dont have these you can lift the wall units to where you like

Ah, thanks. So maybe a row of tall lader units? I think that is what I saw that I liked from IKEA but with glass doors? Can't find it on their site though. Did you get help from a planner or should I wise up to their online tool?

lader units with the 90cm above?

standard tall larder units are 2300 except ikea there an extra 3cm
base unit is 720, plinth 150, worktop thickness around 3/4cms depending what you go for
space between worktop and underneath of wall units is approx 540 (54cms)

Our wall unit is glass fronted, I can't see them on the website but they were definitely available on the planner. Larder units are the floor to ceiling ones

I'd link to a photo but we hadn't actually hung the unit on the wall when it was taken so not much use

We did all the planning ourselves, just got someone instore to double check before pricing up.

Advantage of going with IKEA is their wall units deeper than standard so more storage.

Right. Once DD decides to have her nap (1hr overdue) I will try again with their planner. Any idea which cupboards I am looking at as I found it hard to see the images on the kitchens last time and guessed at Faktum I think? Plain, cream/ivory and shaker style is what I am after!

All the base units are faktum, the doors vary depending on range. Off white shaker style is adel off white

Get a couple of bespoke plans done then take them to Ikea, although I took mine to Magnet. The bespoke people know some good tricks and how to balance the size of doors. In the end our Magnet kitchen is great and the chap who fitted it said that even the very expensive companies tend to use the same skeleton drawers etc and just change the labels.

You could also take a sample door to a paint matching company for any fiddly bits then get a local carpenter to build other bits.

Having units all the way to the ceiling may look a bit odd and items on the top shelf would be very hard to reach. I?ve seen a few units that are classed as tall units below and are about 1970mm to 2150mm (7 foot) high. These might be worth considering. www.diy-kitchens.com/kitchen-units/tall/
