100% wool carpet and jute stairs runner

So, I know nothing about carpets and don't really like them tbh.

We've just bought a new property and dh is adamant that we need carpets in the bedrooms and on the stairs. We're thinking about 100% wool for the bedrooms and some natural fiber for the stairs, like jute or sisal.

What are your opinions on these? Is jute resistant enough for stairs? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Aren't they great exfoliaters though? My soles are a bit rough! :-)

We have a striped sisal runner on our stairs, we had it installed around 3 years ago and it still looks like new. In the bedrooms we have 100% wool and the thickest underlay we could find, I would highly recommend them both :)

Thanks flossie - happy to see a positive response! What colour is your carpet? Have you noticed that it's hard to get rid if stains? We were thinking about cream.....

No not really, we have the same carpet in the lounges too. It's a wool Berber with small flecks of a darker colour - I'm not terribly precious about it but I do try and ban shoes in the house. We used to have stripped floor boards but it was cold and draughty (in a previous house) so decided on a neutral carpet. Have never regretted in :)

Flossiechops how does your runner end at the top of the stairs? Do you have hard flooring up there? I'd quite like a sisal runner but I can't quite picture the arrangement meeting the floor on the landing.

I loved the idea of wool carpets until my friend got carpet moths! Hmm
Now I don't know what's best to go for! Is it sisal that stains very easily if it gets water on it?

LaCerbiatta · 11/03/2013 21:25

Eeeww!! Carpet moths sound revolting! Is that common?

Sahara runner this is what we have. The runner goes up to just under the lip of the top step, then across the landing is a sisal carpet in an accent colour of the runner, this folds over the lip of the step and adjoins the runner, iykwim. It looks lovely :)

Flossiechops · 11/03/2013 21:36

No that didn't work, will try again Sahara runner

LaCerbiatta · 11/03/2013 21:58

Flossie, tell me about your sisal carpet. Is it rough when walking over barefoot? Where did you get it from?

Love your runner, by the way!

tugamommy you can search on the website for local stockists - they have them throughout the country. It is a little rough but not horrendous. its also really hard wearing, the colour hasn't faded at all. I would not want it in the rest of the house but the stairs and landing are ok as they are high traffic areas. We tend to wear slippers most of the time (the house is always cold) so don't really notice the roughness. The house is Edwardian so the stairs are straight in front of you - the colour really hits you when you walk in, I get lots of compliments when visitors come round. Much better than the peach carpet that was there! Go for it I say :)

Jute and sisal rugs are durable and comfort you have purchase rugs. You can easily remove dirt and dust. Jute and sisal rugs good fiber and no harm the environment.
