Help, Why is the paint coming off when I roll it?

So DH and the DSs have gone off to a rugby match and instead of relaxing with a glass of wine, bar of chocolate and a chick flick I decided to paint the kitchen.

I'm making a right cock up of it. Does anyone know why the paint is coming off when I roll it, am I not putting enough on, or am I putting too much on and moving it about too much, have I got the wrong type of roller or is my paint just difficult to work with?

Help. It looks crap.

dirty wall.

kitchens are usually coated with a film of greasy cooking particles. It will be worse if you don't use an effective Extractor hood. Have a look on top of the wall units and be revolted.

Buy some sugar soap, sponges, rubber gloves tomorrow.

See its not that pigletjohn because I made the DCs scrub the walls down before I started (all in the name of fun of course). I was truly disgusted and embarrassed when I saw the colour of the water Blush

Pherhaps its just the Sauvignon blanc Blush Blush

Is it the old paint coming off or the new paint you have just rollered on?

What type of paint are you using? Is it special kitchen paint? If you put it on too thick it will come off when you paint over it again. You also need to be quick. I find that if I do edges and then roller straight away, the rollering will mess the edges up, I have to leave the edges to properly dry, then roller.

Yes it's kitchen paint, maybe that's all it is then. Do I just do a very small area at a time then in thin layer? It's the new paint that's coming off not the paint underneath.

I bet it is though

give them another scrub clean, rinse, rub off with cotton rags. Try it in a test area if you like.

what cleaner did you use?

Hmm just washing up liquid and water. Maybe that is it.

'mmmmm

try Flash tonight, buy sugar soap tomorrow.

I found that it worked ok to do the edges, let them dry properly, then roller but don't re-roller over the bits you have already done, so one thin, quick layer, let it all dry properly, then do another layer.

Good luck!

I would agree that you need to 'flash' the walls before painting, I use flash and a white (not dark green) scourer. If you use a dark green one then it can leave the wall green). I find that better than sugar soap personally.

We had the same in our kitchen and found it was from putting too much paint on the roller
