Hi we have a ten yr old loft conversion with one dorms window. During the winter I cannot open the windows as if I do there are millions of vile flies in the frame which seem a bit dozy. They look like house flies and buzz a bit. Omg it's making me itch please help. I think it maybe cluster flies but what can I do about them?

I think they will be clister flies. They hibernate and accumulate round windows. I had them once in a rented cottage, only round a skylight in the loft. Spray with insecticide as they may be hibernating not dead.

You can hoover them up, and clean the windowframe. I think they can smell where there chums have been so keep coming back. Possibly a cleaning spray with bleach would remove the scent.

A vac with removable bag might be more pleasant to use.

You have my sympathies. Our current house was empty for 2 weeks before we moved in and the bathroom was literally black on every surface with what we thought were dead flies. DH went in to give a quick squirt of fly spray just to kill off any stragglers and it sounded like a 747 taking off - they were all alive still and rose as one Shock. Still gives me creeps to think about it. We were plagued every autumn and tried sprays and bleach and all sorts. In the end we got a pest control person who put a smoke bomb thingy in the loft recess and that did the trick. Still see the odd one, but no more than that.

Yuck. I think in going to get pest control actually because its revolting. I hate not being able to open my window too.
Thanks
