Shutters: mdf vs wood

Hi I'm in an old house in a rural location and thinking of having shutters for my front windows as there is a pub opposite, do I think it could help with privacy & security (cant tell if we're away as looks same etx)
But
I hadst realized how much choice there was.. Having seen prices and as I want white is mdf ok, the ones I saw didn't look much different but £££ less, but will I regret going for the cheaper option later?
Anything else worth paying for that might not be obvious eg tippers?
Thanks

I don't think you can tell the difference once they're painted. I have the 'craftwood' ones, which I assume are MDF as they were the cheapest, and they look great.

We are about to have mdf plantation shutters fitted. When our fitter came to measure up I looked at both wood and mdf and decided on mdf (you can also get ldf - low density fibreboard). The mdf seems to be harder wearing as the wood doesn't withstand knocks as well - it will dint like wooden floorboards can.
If you're in the south west I can thoroughly recommend our guy www.thewoodenblindcompany.co.uk/

do you mean plantation shutters; or french-style external, or Victorian-style internal?
