Can I make an asking price offer?

The house if my dreams has come on the market. It's going to be very popular and houses like this one typically sell quickly in this area (a matter of weeks). I'm not in London but the house market is holding up remarkably well in this town, especially period houses like this one.
I'm about to put my house on the market anyway so my question is, can I make an asking price offer (I feel the house is honestly priced) even though my house is not yet on the market (but will be shortly)? The estate agent thinks our house should sell in 6 to 8 weeks max.
Please tell me!

Yes

You can try it, but if your house isn't yet on the market, they may well not accept it.

It's possible that they will only accept offers from people who are proceedable. This is certainly the case with the house we have hopefully bought (popular area)--needed to have mortgage in principle/proof of funds, and we had already sold our house and moved into rented.
You can make the offer, but I'd recommend getting your house on asap and organising the finance for the move etc. This will at least show the sellers that you are committed to moving.

Thanks. I guess it depends on how quickly they want to move? Would it make sense to put my house on with the same estate agent?

ps I'd call the EA and ask if the sellers already have somewhere to move to/a specific timescale, as this is likely to determine which offers they take seriously.

Exactly, Bimba--if your heart is set on it then I'd get cracking!
