condensation in double glazed units

carlajean · 06/02/2013 07:28

the seals on several of our double glazed units have gone and they're getting condensation inside. In the past we've replaced them, but someone told me that you can get someone to drill a small hole in the outside pane which solves the problem. Is this right? and who would do it - a general builder?

It's a specialist job to fix a sealed unit so you'll need to contact a company who specialise in this sort of work. You can drill a hole in one of the panes but you then need to fit a vent.

It's worth getting a quote to have the units replaced as they aren't expensive.

there will be someone local to you who specialises in repairing patio doors, double glazing and especially plastic doors because they are so unreliable

try to get a local recommendation.

There's a company called Cloudy to Clear who have branches/franchises in a few places. We are looking into that at the moment, as we also have a couple of fogged up windows that we'd rather not replace.

We tried this in one of our rental properties. Unfortunatly it was relieved for only a very short period.
We just replaced five windows in Oct for £1,000 which I thought was a really good price.
we also put in the windows that open outwards as I am sure soon enough LL ,s will have to make sure tenants have a fire escape route.
