Should you clean the house you're moving out of?

We are due to move house in a couple of weeks and I was planning to do a thorough clean of our house before we hand it over to the new buyers (clean oven etc). However as I will be 30 wks pregnant with twins I've asked my Dh & ILs for a hand but they've all said I don't need to clean, just a vac will do! Surely it's polite to leave the house as clean as possible or have I got it wrong?!

Thanks!

No every body does NOT.
It is not required - as it is not in your legal contract.
Yes it is not nice for the new person moving in - but that is life and not your problem.
ooo I sound so mean.

My homes have been fairly spotless when I've moved out - but that is how we live in them.
And infact - they are even more extra spotlessly clean whilst up for sale to impress potential buyers.

BTW - I also have twins and couldn't even sweep the floor when I was 34 weeks! Thankfully my mum came to help me.

My daughter and son in law have just moved and we worked hard to leave everything clean. The house they moved into was very dirty and the cooker was too filthy to be used. They've had to pay for it to be professionally cleaned. It was quite disappointing. Surely it's a matter of pride to leave a house clean.

I always clean completely inc the oven, skirtings, doors, windows, kitchen cupboards etc.
I'd hate to think that someone thought I was a tramp, and I would hate to move into a dirty house, even though most of the time they are!
My dh also re silicones around the bath /showers if they are looking grubby.
I think it's only polite too.

The lady we've just bought a house off was still in cleaning while our removal men were unloading. Nearly 2 months later I'm still cleaning cobwebs and shelves!

Who would even ask this? Of course you'd clean it.! Wow... no wonder Ive had some filthy appartments. Its common courtesy.

I did. I had my cleaner come on and my parents. Sadly the people we bought from didn't do the same.

They swept up the dirt in the dining room into a little mound .... And left it there.Angry

The first property we bought, the owners had paid a cleaner for 2 hours. Goodness knows what state it was in beforehand, because it needed another few hours after she'd left.
When we sold that, I cleaned thoroughly. As the removal men packed up each room, I went in with a damp cloth and the hoover. We had 3 hours between them finishing packing and getting the call that we could collect the keys - flat was gleaming by then!
Luckily owners of our new house had made the same effort, it was so lovely and they'd left a card and wine on the side too.
