So we need to rerender top part. Has any one on here used external wall insulation when doing this and did it make a big difference? I can sort of see how it would make a big difference if the whole house was done (and roof super insulated so no heat gets out) but am not sure whether it is worth spending the money in my case. I used to have a house like that and often thought it would be worthwhile next time the render needed doing. It is quite effective and I have seen it done in Switzerland. The rigid foam slabs used are better insulators than mineral fibre for the same thickness. Kingspan make boards for the purpose.

If you going to be re-rendered, I think it would be a good idea, unless it is ridiculously expensive. As well as saving energy, it will make the bedrooms cosier as they will not chill so fast at night when the heating is off.

Youll need to hack off all the old render and need someone skilled to detail round the windows, especially if it is in an older part of London with the windows set to the inner face of the wall.
