do really thin tiles exist?

we have bare floorboards in our bedroom with an ugly bit of concrete on the floor where I guess a hearth used to be, done by some previous owner who just hid it with carpet. Half of it is covered up by our washing basket which fits in the old fireplace but we'd like to try and find something we can cover it all with. The problem is it's flush with the floorboards so any tiles would stick up.
any ideas?
I thought about a rug but think it might look odd as it would have to be pushed right against the wall

I am not sure whether this is a good idea at all. But years ago I bought a sheet of "wood laminate flooring look" adhesive vinyl paper at a diy store. (I used it to cover a piece of plywood, that I put on top of a piece of aluminum pipe that I had nicked from a backyard in Tooting Bec Hmm - It made a nice and interesting table)

Not sure this would work?

could you get poured latex?

What about vinyl/karndeany/amtico stuff - they are very thin? Or could you make it into a "feature" ie with tiles albeit raised and a vase/ornament in the middle? Or a free standing mirror? Or twigs and pebbles and fairylight-like shite
