Selling House - quite a bit of torn wallpaper but no time/money to replace

I am starting the process of selling my parents house for them. We have lived there for a few years and my DS had a habit of tearing off bits of wallpaper so there are 3 rooms where there are a few bits of wallpaper missing (generally right in the centre of a wall typically. The rest of the house is in pretty good condition and we have just replaced the kitchen doors as my brother broke several of those when he was living here. My parents don't seem bothered about putting it on the market as it is. I would love to replace the paper but two of the rooms are huge, we have no money to decorate and DH is going away on business this weekend for 2 weeks and my parents are putting it on a few days after he gets back.

Also there are a couple of places in the bedrooms where the kids drew on the walls so I covered it up with posters Blush

What would you do?

evil overlord solution - put up some pictures

sleep-at-night solution - remove the panels of paper that are damaged, carefully scrub off the lining paper and slap up some white emulsion in the gaps. Then put a picture on it. Looks better maintained and you can explain why it has been done with a clear conscience.

So far I have gone with the evil overlord solution but feeling bad about it so don't feel we can put it on the market like that. Typically the paper is stupid colours like bright yellow and cornflour blue so will be a nightmare to match with paint.

in that case, my call is white paint - as new owners will be straight in with the wallpaper stripper anyway, so you may just need to make things tidy. Or if the whole place is senior-citizen-decor (with the greatest respect) maybe don't bother and just sell as is!

Nope not senior citizen just a bit behind the times (last decorated in the nineties apart from two rooms we have done). Do you mean repaint the entire room white over the wallpaper?

Can you rearrange any furniture to cover the tears in the wallpaper and leave it at that?
