Glass splashbacks - pros and cons?

We are designing the kitchen to go into our half-built extension. Currently debating splashbacks and we are both quite attracted to glass. I just wondered whether anyone has any comments, good or bad? Do they last well? Does the colour fade/scratch? And how hard/expensive is it to get one cut to fit (e.g. around lots and lots of sockets, which we have just asked the electrician to put in!)

And can recommend a good supplier (in SE England)?

If you put one in behind your hob remember to leave space for when it expands otherwise it will crack. We had to learn the hard way.

The colour is behind the glass, so you can't scratch it off. We had ours done by Glass Inspirations in Camberley who were great.

We have a lovely silver colour which is great and because the glass is reflective it makes the kitchen lighter than just a painted wall. The current trend seems to be granite upstands and then painted walls but any accident when cooking must stain the walls. The glass is so easy to clean and has no grouting unlike tiles.

Don't worry about sockets, they cut all those out.

I just got a piece of toughened glass. They provided silver fixings. From a glass window place.
I do need to take it off to repaint soon, but that has been about 6 years. It has a dark colour behind it.

Never thought about expansion.

Eek - cracking behind the hob sounds scary. Was that an actual splashback designed for behind a hob, or just a piece of glass? The company I've looked at does talk about using tempered glass behind hobs - possibly for that reason.

Will have a look at Glass Inspirations - Camberley is not too far away.

Thanks all.

Nope just a piece of glass. It has room at the top I suppose, it wasn't shoehorned in.
It's about 90cm wide by 70cm high and cost under £100.

Yh, was this one in black. Luckily it was bought on dbros trade account so they replaced it for free. It doesnt need much room for expansion just about 10mm i think, dp had left none! If you know someone with a trade account as they could probably get you one a lot cheaper, ours was listed as over £300 for the public price but as dbro had a trade account got it for about £70 think.

Just make sure the edges are safely finished. H was doing some work in a house where they had (supposedly) good quality glass, he thought Fired Earth? He cut himself really badly on the unfinished edges.

Now no offence but my clear glass looks better than that I think, tho I do have a bold wall colour behind it.
Will attempt a photo upload tomo
