Resale value of Aga?

We're considering buying a house that has an Aga (as well as an oven and a hob - having all 3 wastes too much space for us). On reflection, we'd rip the Aga out and re-do the kitchen as at present, the space in there is not used well. I know Agas can be sold but how much am I likely to get for the 4 door type? I'm hoping it could contribute to the cost of refitting the kitchen.

Contact Aga and see if they will buy it back. They certainly do a trade in when you replace an old Aga with a new one (£500).

Aga melt down the cast iron from the old Aga and recycle that into new Agas.

Or find an independent Aga installer and sell it to him, they have a good resale value.

But I still think you will regret it.

we sold our small one for £400, don't regret it all as now we can afford to heat the house. We replaced with a pot bellied stove. I love AGA's, brought up with them, it was heartbreaking but thems the breaks.

My mum paid something crazy like £4k for a second hand 2 door Aga about 5 or 6 years ago. I am not sure if that included installation.

I'd keep it, I really would. I think you should try living with it for a few months before you decide it"s fate. Lovely bread, warm, aired clothes, jacket spuds, lovely blowy warmth, hardly any ironing ...

I've lived with one in someone else's house and although it was much easier to cook on than I'd expected I don't think I want it (and DH is positive he doesn't) because:
-it's a kitchen with a smallish window and no outside doors so running the Aga in the warmer months is not an option... which therefore leads to

  • having an additional oven and hob taking up valuable kitchen space
  • also don't fancy the ongoing servicing costs.

This isn't a big house in the country. It's a semi, in a town. Modest kitchen, not tiny but not big enough that I want to waste space by doubling up with an Aga and a conventional oven.

I did like the warming clothes element of it, but I'll have a laundry room and tbh I hardly iron anyway!
