Static caravan?

We are thinking of using one when renovating a new-to-us house. It would stand outside and free us from the gouging letting/managing agents and their endless renewal fees, refusal to fix stuff and inflexibility (we are not naive, and know renovations generally run over time and budget).

Would we run power off the main house? How do water and sanitation work: would we plumb in to the house, too?

How is the insulation and heating? We'd be moving in March. I must add that due to the aforementioned agents, we've got heating problens even now, in a so-called house!

I know you'll think I'm mad for not asking advice on living in a caravan with DC, but they're all different, so I'm reluctant to frighten myself unnecessarily!

Thanks for any advice! Maybe I'll blog about it when it all happens! Grin

Christmas, I am sure you will need planning permission for the caravan, so consult your local authority planning department before bringing it on site. Planning officers may also be able to advise you about the utilities.

I've checked with the Council about planning: they say no planning or licensing is required for a caravan for personal or family use. The nice man on the other end of the line even suggested we "notify" planning as a courtesy measure so they would have a record of it when some busybody decides to complain! Grin

I hadn't thought about asking them about the utilities, though - thanks!
