Flueless fires

Hello all ,

does anyone have one & what should I think about? It seems that it is too problematic to get the flue out to the roof in our new house & architect and builder are recommending a flueless one , which I guess I will have to do . Have had a quick google but wondered if anyone has one , & could recommend who does nice ones , wide choice etc.

Many thanks
MWT

if you don't mind your room being filled with the fumes from the gas fire, you only have to worry about the condensation that will be caused by the water vapour it produces.

Many gas fitters refuse to touch them, though as far as I know only one person in the UK has been sent to prison for badly installing one that killed the family.

If you mean a room-sealed fire with a balanced flue, that is something safe, and entirely different from a flueless fire.

Or you can get fireplaces with electric does that just plug in and require no flue. We have one from Argos called Adam Miami Ivory fireplace.

here you are

some people say it was unfair to blame the installer, when the fire had been wrongly adjusted, and sealed, in the factory, and was bought in a dangerous condition. The installer did not detect that the manufacturers had sold a deathtrap. No doubt this is the only time anyone has ever made a mistake.

I wouldn't have one, the company I used to work for refused to fit them, get a nice electric fire instead, the dimplex optimyst range are nice and have a really good flame effect

Piglet , desparate

Would you be worried about a bioethanol fire (ie the type you put fuel in a unit ) ?

why are you desperate to have flames, fumes and water vapour in your room?

what's wrong with an electric heater?

has this room not got an external wall where a balanced flue gas fire could go?

Piglet

No - no outside wall - a mid terrace. I suppose I hadn't really thought of it in terms of filling the room with flames , fumes and water vapour. If I'm honest I like the look of a fire and think it makes the room look cosier - also the ones I am looking at are "open" (ie not behind glass)

However , thanks for your advice - clearly more to think about than I had first realised.

Thank you
Mrs WFT
