For those of you without wet rooms ...

Sorry, me again! I have read some threads similar to this (more advanced as discussing trays etc which I will devour when I have a reply...) but I NEED someone on here to tell me what we are planning to do is not crazy (or is, which is equally as valid). We have asked at a bathroom showroom (who suggested it actually) but I just can't get visions of a flooded bathroom out of my head!

OK, we have space for a 2m x 900 shower down one side of our bathroom (we have knocked down a wall so it is the space to the left of the door where next doors built in wardrobe was). We initially wanted a wet room until we saw the price but the showroom guy suggested a long shower tray with a flat glass screen to about 3/4 which leaves us space to walk in. They don't seem to do shower trays which are 2m long so we would have to go smaller but, in essence, would it work or would we flood the bathroom?

Any advice gratefully received. From reading through some of these threads it would seem others have been through this too.

Thanks again :)

If you have a shower tray then it will be much less likely to be a problem. Tbh, I'd sooner have a wardrobe than a shower that size though.

I have pretty much what you describe, It has never flooded in 8 years.

ValentineWiggins · 04/12/2012 09:59

No reason it wouldn't work!

We have something similar with tiles on the floor - but i have no idea what is underneath to prevent flooding if the grout leaks. Must be something! Previous house had something similar but with a tiled lip to the edge of the shower to stop water cascading over the floor (which it has been known to do when the plug gets blocked with hair...ick). Other option is to put a long grated drain along the side of the shower - then it's easy to mop any spilled water into the drain.

It will be fine.

The glass panel will be floor to ceiling height yes ?

Both my 12 year old and 15 year old have walk in showers like that and their bathrooms are fine and have never had an excess of water on the floor.

(in the case of my son that might be because he and water rarely mix - but DD is in there for hours )

Thanks all. Lala, i kind if agree but it is in the room that will be the study and it has loads of other storage.

We are having a very similar discussion - aiming for a 140 x 90 shower space across the end of the shower room, and should it be wetroom or have a shower tray? MN has pretty much convinced me in favour of the shower tray Grin

ValentineWiggins - I love the idea of the long grate along the shower rather than single plughole, do you have any links for them or shall I get Google happy and scare DH!

My DSis's bathroom is like this. It's lovely. The side panel of glass runs floor to ceiling, and it has a small panel at the end to make a short corner, which you walk around, and it stops any stray splashes. A bit like this |__, |

ValentineWiggins and Yorky -links please :)

My head says this is very nice and does what we need for a good price.

My heart prefers this, but I would probably be able to use DH's life insurance to pay for it after he saw the price difference!

GrendelsMum · 04/12/2012 17:16

DH and I once stayed in a 'boutique hotel' where they had that set-up, complete with the silhouette of a naked woman with excessively pert breasts on the shower glass.

It was ... memorable.

ireallyhavenoidea · 04/12/2012 17:23

Wow Yorky that 2nd one is lovely. So, I can look at 'walk-in showers' without them being for a wet room? (That's what was confusing me. It's going upstairs so I really, really don't want it to leak!)

Let me know what you go for in the end ...

Oh, and what about coloured trays. Have you decided against them? My dh suggested one but I guess they are expensive ....
