I need to paint some old wooden furniture. Has anyone used Annie Sloan chalk paints & wax? Is it any good and is it as easy to use as it says it is?

Yes I have and I love it. It's so easy to use, no undercoat needed, might need two or three coats, but the brushes can be washed easily in water. Waxing is easy too.

Thank you LifeIsBetter. Did you need to water it down much? Is it tricky to get it the right consistency?

No I didnt need to water it down at all, but it would be easy to do, it depends on the coverage you want; not watered down would give full coverage, whilst watered down would give either lighter coverage or a wash effect.

I've just used it I wasn't massively impressed tbh

I was drawn to it as it claims easy application / no sanding etc

It goes on ok. If you're of the mind it isn't like normal paint so won't look normal ie smooth and even

I was mostly interested because of te 'no need to sand' but actually applying and huffing the wax was equally as annoying and time consuming as sanding would have been

I think if you want that rather passé shabb chic, web on the edges and corners look it's the thing. If you just want to paint wood I'd go for a quick light sand and normal eggshell every time

Thanks all for your replies. I might have known that the question would have already been asked and answered on mumsnet. Grin
