Real Oak flooring v Karndean

Hi there, We have been forced to lift the Karndean flooring in our extention because of flood damage.
I loved the Karndean but am considering going for a real oak floor. A few friends said it scratches easily and I wonder if others share that view? We have two young kids, the room goes directly into the garden and so there is a lot of traffic through it.

gardens to tend to encourage mud and grit, sometimes even stones. I suppose a very big mat, inside and out, would help.

Or you may feel that bruises and scratches on a real wood floor add to its character, it will be easier to deal with them if it is oiled and waxed rather than lacquered, as you could just clean and rewax them.

if you have it going directly onto a garden then you'll need a decent mat but to be honest, you'd have that on any floor surely. I dont notice scratches on our wood floor but it is oiled so can easily be reoiled. price difference between karndean and a decent quality oak floor probably quite significant.

You could have a big coir mat set into the floor if you get wood. Then it will stay put and do what it's supposed to do.
