against buying one that is, say 10/15 years old.

We went to see some new builds and they are very pretty and new and neat but I have no experience in buying brand new. Should I make it an option or not?

using the loo is fine if they clean it (should have included that point in my post). when i moved into my new build there was a huge skidmark down the bowl. disgusting to leave that for the new owner to find. of course i would have been cleaning the toilet anyway before use but it should have been cleaned by the person who used it.

Have heard about the crapping on the floor (well anywhere) before too. I think they do it "anywhere" when there isnt a plumbed in loo.

I was also told they piss all over the place.

couldn't they at least find a bucket?? they have buckets on building sites don't they? aren't there health and safety regulations that should make it illegal for them to shit and piss on the floor? it's a workplace isn't it?

There are always welfare facilities on building sites I.e somewhere to make coffee, go to the loo etc but some people are to lazy/disgusting etc to bother walking to the facilities, often behaviour by a small minority of blokes on site can be appalling.
If I ever caught or heard of a builder doing this on one of my sites they'd be in deep shit and not just literally. Angry

yup pretty gross isn't it. He used to come home and tell me the grossest stories! Am glad he is out of that business now. Also I was shocked to discover that many big name home builders (he's worked for several of the big boys) scrimp on building materials in the private sale homes. Whereas because the housing association ones get inspected and there are certain standards which must be adhered to they are often actually far better made.

His tales of bodge it jobs and cocked up gable ends etc often have me flabbergasted. Because lots of firms work on price work it means you are sometimes left finishing a house and are not actually getting paid for it as you pulled all the cash out early on and or you want to quickly get onto the next house before another gang take it, this means houses get rushed and often the level of care in the job is lacking.

Reading that back I feel I should point out that I do feel the HA houses should be finished to a high standard, just that its not ethically or morally right that the rest of the estate gets lower quality workmanship. Re the toileting thing again its often because going downstairs and out of the house and then all the way to the bait cabin and portaloo's takes time and if your getting paid according to how much you've done in the day well....and some of them think it is just hilarious.
