£620 each. Not including fitting. Buggering hell!. Silent Gliss maybe the dogs bollux but come on! £620 each.....

Any thoughts/experiences? Cannot bear the thought of just plain white tracks - do want that "pole" look.

Anywhere else I can go before I commit to yet another £1200 for my money pit house? Not that I think DH would agree. £620 each FFS!

My son suggested these: www.paulsimon.co.uk/curtains/tracks-and-poles/urban-track-21 ,I've got some on order and will report my findings!

Awkwardsquad mentioned the Laura Ashley bay curtain poles above and I have to agree that they are expensive but absolutely rubbish.

They are okay as long as you don't want to draw the curtains when they become "not fit for purpose". The rings jam at the bends and fall off easily. Laura Ashley claim that their heavy duty curtain poles are not suitable for heavy curtains!!

Oh and the individual pole's colours are different shades as well!

Laura Ashley's "Customer Service" is a misnomer as well - they provide no after-sales service whatsoever.

Has anyone found any white or cream bay window poles, I am so fed up looking at the same boring designs and colours. Oh and I can do the iron ones myself, but not in white or cream. If anyone want to make the iron ones yourselves, just look for local blacksmithing classes, great way to unwind, bashing metal!!

okay, we've got really wide windows and dh has just bought a new slider thing for it.
it comes on a roll so is flexible and would work on.a bay window.
it's called lightweight curtain track rail
it was 4.5 m from homebase. dh says it cost less then 15qyid and came with the sliders that hold the hooks and the fixings. he's just told me it's suitable for a bay window

god bless mums net. once again. i was tearing hair at john lewis quotes for their super-silent gliss poles. ffs! these wrought iron ones are just gorgeous. if anyone is still kicking around on this thread...... do these wrought iron poles work ok with quite heavy curtains i.e. with blackout lining and wotnot? thanks

The most important thing is what you fix them to. Older houses may have a wooden lintel or shallow brick arch. Newer houses may have a concrete or steel lintel. They can all be successfully drilled but techniques are different. Screwing into plaster is no good at all so if you can't get a 2 inch screw in, it is too shallow. Screwing into the ceiling is fine as long as you can locate and screw into the joists for the floor above. If there is no floor above the timbers may have been sized strong enough to hold up a plaster ceiling and nothing more. Net curtains are very light and you may think don't need a strong fixing until a cat or child climbs up the curtain.

Curtain rails falling off is quite common and after you have experienced it once you will be more cautious.

I'm just going thru this whole trauma...we have been looking at the b&q kits but they don't have enough corner thingys and guess what...you can't order them separately. I'm going to read the whole thread thru and hopefully make a decision.

We used S P Harrison, www.curtainpole.co.uk, after a lot of searching as we wanted something decent and made to fit that wouldn't cost the earth (I think it was about £185). It was the best we found if anyone's looking...

We've just bought some really nice bay window poles from this place www.curtainpolestore.co.uk. They seemed priced well, £140 I paid.
