and the door to the room will not then shut, should the carpet fitter sort it?

DH says they should, but I don't think it's part of the job of fitting a carpet.

We had a carpet fitted in our bedroom a few months ago and our door needs planeing down at the bottom as it no longer fits. It is still resting against the wall outside our room.

It had never occured to me it might have been the fitters job to sort it. Thinking about it now I don't think it would be. We bought the carpet for the room as we knew it was. We didn't think about the door but should have and we should have either got a less lush carpet or been prepared to change the door to accommodate it. Which we will. Eventually...

Haha! I could do it myself but I really can't be arsed. (The feminist in me me has to say that but really I would likely plane too much off, create a breeze through the bottom therefore negating the actual door!)

It's an unspoken battle of wills. We are both quite stubborn and also not that bothered about having no door so it is likely to stay unhinged for some time.

Yes, I guess I could do it myself too, but don't really want to have to as I also work.... I am going to get a man in asap as we will have visitors next week, so I don't want the door jammed open!

I had laminate floor fitted last year. The fitter (from a well known company) removed my street door and garden door without being asked, trimmed them and refitted them and didn't charge anything extra.

The same company came back a few months later to fit the carpet on the stairs and my bedroom. The built in wardrobe doors and my bedroom door is a bit tight, they wanted £40 to trim 3 doors but I told them not to bother. So, months on and we are still dragging the door across the carpet.
One day, we'll get around to trimming the doors ourself.

Good plan. My DH has a week off work and is claiming he will decorate the nursery so fingers crossed the door gets a look in to!

Not the fitters job. Unfortunately taking door off, planing and rehanging is a bloody pain.

Not necessarily the fitter's job BUT if you had the carpet company out to measure up etc before you ordered the carpet, they should have advised you that the doors would need to be planed. Even if they don't do it themselves, I would think most will be able to direct you to someone who they recommend to get it done before the carpet is fitted. I would give them a call and see what they say.

My dad is a carpet fitter and he says its NOT his job to fix the door. He's there to fit carpets, not do joinery

Our carpet fitters did it without any issue. When they found my DH was going to fit laminate in the hall at a later date they cut out all the bases of the doorframes for him with a specialist tool and gave him a couple of lessons in how to tackle the job. Brilliant!
