Have you had sash windows refurbished? How much did it cost?

Ours are in varying condition, some with flaking wood and black mould growing around the edges, some in much better nick... I'm just trying to get an idea of costs. I'm in Surrey so I may as well add 30% to any price :(

We did ours ourselves. They were all painted shut and there was some rotten wood that had to be removed and filled. We stripped, painted, added new sash cords, new putty and replaced a couple of cracked pains. It was v time consuming though.

Hi,

Yes it does depend on what needs doing. Do you live in a conservation area?

Normally there are 4 options:

Full restoration,
Draught Proofing,
Double Glazing,
or totally new windows.

If windows are draughty and rattling, normally draught proofing can resolve the issue.

Double Glazing is usually for windows in a good condition but where the client would like double glazed glass to improve heat retention.

If wood is rotted, or some of the bars have broken, then restoration is the answer.
