Anyone live in Chester?

My mum is thinking of moving to Chester because it's roughly equidistant between my sister and I. She has visited Chester over the years as we used to live relatively close, so she knows the shops, Roman bits etc but we don't know the residential bits of Chester to know where to look for houses.

If anyone lives around Chester, could you give me an idea of decent areas or nearby villages to live in? She's retired, so schools aren't an issue, but she'd need to be safe, have decent local shops, maybe a park as she has a dog, and good transport links into the city centre. I'm ready to hit RightMove for her, so now I just need some place names if anyone can help. Smile

TIA.

Thank you so much everyone - Odd, that house looks really good and I've sent the details to mum. She's really after a house as she wants freehold rather than the leasehold that flats tend to be, and has a small dog (are you getting an idea of the difficulties this search has been causing? and this is before we start on her need to be near a swimming pool Wink)

I'll put a search on rightmove for Hoole to see what comes up. She has £120k but needs to pay for any improvements, furniture, carpets etc out of that as well so she can go above £110 if it's a house that doesn't need decorating or repairing.

Thanks again.

You could walk along the green way to total fitness (fitness club but prob does a reasonable off peak swim membership) or northgate arena (council pool) so that would help with the swimming pool. Any questions about the area please ask. :-)

I'd avoid Blacon tbh.

Northgate village if she wants to be within walking distance of the pool? Or Newton, near the gym ?

She would pay a premium for Hoole. Wouldn't rule out Boughton, which is a bit cheaper; also Vicars Cross.

For villages, there may be something in her price range in Guilden Sutton or Mickle Trafford; Christleton is lovely but likely to be over budget.

If she moves into North Wales I would go Rossett way rather than Saltney.

About half hour from Chester you have the lovely black and white town of nantwich, could be worth a look, cheaper than Chester too.

Can't link from here but if you search on rightmove there is a bungalow in Dodleston for 119k , nice village but not sure how good the buses to town are.

IslaValargeone · 14/10/2012 14:26

I think there are hourly buses from Dodleston into town, possibly more.

Hi girls I’m thinking to relocating to Southport are there any areas to avoid what’s Curzon Rd, Preston Rd and Fleetwood Rd Wesham and surrounding areas like please

Does she drive or purely reliant on public transport? A bit further out of Chester she could maybe consider neston, or n.wales direction there is mold. I live in saughall which would be perfect but unlikely to get anything for her budget
