Anyone know where I could get a nice, pure wool blanket to have on sofa?

Would like a patterned/colourful one that doesn't require a small mortgage to buy.

Or something like this from the national trust, bit cheaper!

I have been meaning to buy one of these for ages

I'd second the Avoca ones. There's a store in my town and I often buy them as gifts. Lovely quality.

A lot of people find wool makes them itch. Wool blankets on a bed are fine (you just don't use one if you're afflicted), but on a sofa you don't always know who's going to sit down! You also can't wash wool blankets so they're not great for kids or pets.

I tend to advise cotton or cotton mix blankets on sofas, although the downside is that it's hard to find patterns. You can also go down the Indian cotton quilt route. Zara Home is a good source.

If you just want to be cosy, a duvet kept in a blanket box (which can then be used as a side-table) is a fab practical compromise and keeps heating costs down.

I have wool throws/blankets on our sofa and wash them on a wool wash and they are fine.
The National Trust ones look good and are very reasonable.

Where are you based? Melin Treqwynt has a shop in Pembrokeshire that sells its seconds, and they're really lovely.

I have wool blankets and that are very soft and comfortable. I also washed them 2 months back and even after wash they look as fresh as before.. Wink

What temp are you lot washing your wool blankets?

You need 50 degrees to kill most common house mites. Wouldn't like to see your blankets after that!

PrunellaDeVille · 13/10/2012 16:26

i have a couple of these, they're a good size and have a good weight to them. the label says they can be washed on a cool wash but i haven't tried yet.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 13/10/2012 18:06

Ooh Prunella they are lovely, I may have to buy a couple of those!

Wool makes me itch too 1605 so we ended up with patterned fleece throws. I had a cable knitted cotton one for years that was lush but finally got rid of it from pulls from the kids.
Now I change the pattern with my mood, red with white snow flakes over Christmas. etc.
I find them in all different places I do like ones from Lands End but the UK site doesn't offer many.
I have seen some in Costco recently, shaggy super soft fleece one side and micro suede type stuff on the other.
