Ok we probably are asking too much but want a new kitchen at a good price. We have a quote and the fitting alone was £2.7k (minimum) subject to a site visit it might be nearer (£3.6k).

Does that seem reasonable? Its for a Kitchen Collection kitchen with the units made up already. The total price (excluding appliances) is £10.5k minimum. Its quite a big kitchen but we are having laminate worksurfaces. Price excludes floor, which we are having tiled.

Am looking at Ikea kitchens and trying to understand what the total price will be.

Sorry for all the questions. Am a kitchen newby. We were originally looking at just having it revamped and may still go down this route.

The back of my Ikea units are all full height with the exception of the sink cabinet and fridge/freezer cabinet so that pipes and plug can feed through.

We've fitted the units ourselves but got a fantastic guy in to do our bespoke solid wood worksurfaces. There's a bit of hard work involved in doing them yourself but ultimately it was not too bad. Our kitchen had been replastered and pipes and wiring had been set in behind the plaster so our units could sit flush to the wall with no problems.

I am North Herts - can give you my builder's name if you like - he does "everything" - ie sorts all the trades. Not the cheapest but v good quality. Covers Letchworth/Baldock/Hitchin/Royston/ and Beds/Cambs border villages. PM me if you are interested.

I would avoid Kitchen Collection like the plague. The kitvhens are nice enough but one of my units developed a split and another special that I ordered arrive with the corner bashed in.

They have ignored my emails send directly and through their portal as well as registered mail. No attempt to resolve the problem. I'm left with an incomplete kitchen having spent thousands and am having to turn to Trading Standards and VISA to try and get some kind of resolution.

We just had a new kitchen as part of an extension and refurb project. We went with DIY kitchens after a recommendation from an independent kitchen designer. I paid him £250 to come over, measure, talk to me for an hour about what I like/dislike/want. He then drew a rough sketch there and then giving me really excellent ideas and completely making me rethink the space. Once agreed, he went home, did the whole plan on special software, sent me mock ups, plans and a full list with codes of every single item I needed to order from DIY kitchens numbered and referred back to the plan. Included in my price was one redraw after seeing all that. I then ordered online at DIY using his list and my builders fit it. We have only been in for a week now but I love it. I think the quality is very good. Through the whole process with DIY, their customer service was amazing. They double check what you order before the manufacture and contact you with any issues they see (they found three mistakes on my order!). Their delivery men were excellent too.

So I guess you do get what you pay for !

I think you misunderstood me. I made the mistakes when adding stuff on the website. I clicked the wrong colour for the doors and they spotted it. If they hadn't been so thorough in checking my order, I would
Have ended up with mismatching doors.

We've used DIY several times and they've been really good; one door arrived with a scratch and it was replaced with no hassle at all.

Ah - all good then !!

I would recommend Howdens, especially if you know someone who has a trade account and could pass the discount on - we paid £6.5k for an amazing kitchen
