Folding sliding doors

Help. I need some advice and to vent a bit here

We have just received our delivery of very expensive bespoke doors and roof lights for our extension (£20,000 pounds). The company started putting them in on Monday when we noticed that one of the 5 folding doors is 15cm larger than the others. We consulted the plans that that we signed off and these show that there should indeed be 5 equal doors. We have subsequently discovered that their production manager changed the plans as he didn't think that the doors would align properly with the roof lights. He claims to have sent us and our architect the revised plans but neither us can find any email or written correspondence from him. The architect also claims to have not spoken him since the original sign off.

We are a bit stuck as they have come back to us today and said that as they have manufactured to the last issued plan, we will have to bear the additional costs of getting the glass remade or adjusted. The issue is that we have had to pay 85% of the glass costs already so haven't got much leverage and obviously can't afford to get the glass remade. I am wondering if the only option is court which will mean living in a bloody freezing house as winter approaches and could take ages to sort out. Any other suggestions.....other than shooting the supid production manager?

Surely the order would refer to a signed drawing, and they won't be able to produce another drawing with your approval?

Who is the company - is it Sunfold?

As an aside, maybe the production manager is right, so it may be worth considering his point. BUT he should definitely have spoken to you first to clear it.

No the company isn't Sunfold. It is a local company. The project manager sent us an email with the the correct drawings attached and said that this was what the doors were being manufactured on 14th August but new plans seem to have been produced on the 31st of August. Unfortunately the production manager isn't right anyway because I think that the all the roof rafters are in the wrong place and so fixing it all to the main building is going to be tricky even if we can live with the wong size doors. (which will bug me every time I see it!). I think our only option is to say to them they need to redo it all and I will get out the thermals now!

OK - we had a nightmare with Sunfold until the MD got involved, and he sorted everything brilliantly.

If you have not signed off the plans they have no right to tell you that you have to pay for the new glazing, as it's necessity is a result of their lack of communication. It would worry me that you had to pay 85% up front though - that's a high proportion, and I'd been concerned that their cashflow isn't strong enough to see the job through. Surely your architect's fighting this one for you?

They haven't communicated, so they need to resolve it!

Maybe tell the company they'll have to pay for accommodation for your family as it gets cold, if they don't pull their fingers out and get sorted asap?
