Where to get a very large and/or modular sofa

We're looking for a sofa that needs to be about 3 metres long. Normal sofas don't come that long (usual max is about 230cm) so we've been looking at modular options, though we don't actually need it to be modular (as long as it comes apart for installation).

Has anyone bought a good modular or huge sofa recently and can tell me where from? Especially if it was a less well known place. Sofa.com have one option (stella) which fits the bill ok but just wondering about other options?

Thanks

Depends on your budget. My friend has just bought two enormous beats from Roche Bobois. I think it is modular.

Try Nabru
You pick from the various elements to design your own sofa. We got ours from there and are very happy with it - solid, looks good, hard wearing.
They come completely broken down and you have to put it together yourself but it's very easy and quick.
They have a showroom in Uxbridge if that's any help.

Roche Bobois is sadly beyond budget (especially as this sofa will have small children crawling all over it). Sofa.com is about the upper end budget wise, we could possibly spend a little more for the perfect item but not into designer land.

Nabru looks like a total bargain moxxie! Looks too good to be true but you say yours is solid and hard wearing. Is it comfy? Uxbridge is do-able as we're in SW london.

It would be beyond mine too, Minipie. Nabru looks really good though.

There are 2 options re: comfort minipie, normal, and then one with extra elastic supports as far as I recall. We went for the extra elastic and it's great. You don't sink into it or anything, but I have done some good lounging, film watching, breastfeeding etc on ours and never felt uncomfortable.

We couldn't quite believe the price and options either, so went to the Uxbridge showroom to have a try of the different styles, widths of arms and all that. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind - I am quite tight and wouldn't spend that much money without seeing the product first!

You can also get an extra set of covers for £70, or at least that's how much it was a couple of years ago.

I am properly tight too but I know DH will be reluctant to go to Uxbridge... will see what he says. He is usually of the "anything cheap can't be good" view Hmm

The extra support definitely sounds worth it. We will be using this sofa a LOT (it will be our main TV watching sofa iyswim and I am due with DC1 in december so it will get a lot of breastfeeding use!) so glad to hear yours has stood up to it. I don't want a sinky sofa, I like them quite firm so that's fine as long as it's got some bounce and isn't just a solid block.

I had a look and sadly spare covers are a bit more than that (£250 or so for the size we are after, so half the price of the sofa Shock) still, might be worth it anyway...

Try Loungin www.loungin.co.uk on Battersea Rise - they will customise the length of their sofas for not much extra at all (pretty sure we paid under £100 for extra width and length). I'm really pleased with our leather sofa, staff are very helpful and knowledgeable too.

Something to check with modular sofas is exactly how they fit together. We've got one from about five years ago from Sofa Workshop which has a plastic 'prong" which you push onto a connector and which constantly comes apart with normal use - ie kids on the sofa.

The one we've just bought from sofa.com is a much better design in that you have to connect using a metal bracket - slotting one module into the other from above so it can't come apart from sideways movement. The sofa is really comfy too.

We got our modular corner sofa (can be used as a long 3 seater) and that also has metal brackets. Is really comfortable but quite firm.

financialwizard · 18/09/2012 10:58

Oh dear we got ours from csl

Queasyrider · 18/09/2012 14:50

We have this one and used a large left hand unit and a large right hand unit to create a 3 meter long sofa. Was very impressed with the fabric range.

minipie · 18/09/2012 15:08

Queasy that looks ideal! Thank you! Can you tell me roughly what the cost was?
