Do you have one and if so what model? Do you recommend them ? And is there anything I should be wary of with regardsto install?

have you got a chimney? the stove supplier should inspect it, and also the amount of permanent, unobstructed ventilation into the room.

I do have a chimney and currently a coal fire

I don't have one, but I have Charnwood stoves in my store of ideas for our next house. Made in the UK and lovely too.

Clearview, can't remember the model, sorry.

It is fantastic, can't recommend it enough, roll on winter Grin

Chimney needs to be lined, and it costs (almost as much as the stove...)

CO detector should be fitted, and you should have flue swept at least yearly (and get a certificate)

Did I mention that my Clearview stove is fab and I love it? Grin

I have a stove, ive had it for about 15 years and i LOVE it. In fact, my DP is, as i type, lighting ours. It saves us a fortune in gas.

You will need to get the chimney lined, and make sure that you get it fitted by a HETAS registered engineer, OR have it signed off by building control. 1973 is right, getting it lined is bloody expensive and can cost more than the stove.

I have a stanley stove - it has a horse on the side of it

Defo need CO2 meter

So if we have no open fireplaces, the chimney breast is bricked up I'm assuming, it's going to be super expensive for us to install a stove? :(

poppyboo · 20/09/2012 11:53

Jen, congrats, I've always dreamt of having a woodburner, so cosy!

Get the flue cleaned and checked using a smoke test prior to installation, as long as the flue is of at least 125 mm diameter with a 125 mm outlet and is well sealed then no lining is required. as with any kind of fire fit a pair of CO2/CO detectors, one at high level and one at low level in the area of the stove.
Fitted my stove about 4 years ago, best money saving feature I have ever installed and easy to use and maintain.
