I fancy a warm, folky, retro look in my bedroom?

Do you know what I mean? A sort of cocoon-like 70s inspired haven...patchwork quillt and warm lighting...browns and reds...has anyone got any ideas please? Reccomendations? I am looking to do it cheap!

At the moment it is bright white with no style...we have horrid whte fitted wardrobes with mirrors...no chance of changing that.

No headboard atm...would like one though.

Hi - by strange coincidence I watched a Swedish film called 'Together' last night, (it was brilliant, I am suffering withdrawal after the ending of the Killing and other Scandi stuff). It was set in Stockholm in the 70s, and the house was so 70s retro ( obviously, it was made in the 70s) - their bedroom was red and brown as you describe, with loads of hanging plants in crocheted holders. IF you can watch it on iplayer, do, because everything was 70s heaven, but all the decor was authentic, it will give you some ideas.

I love red, and used a fired earth cochineal colour on walls in our last house, and also tangerine orange -, these are lovely warm colours. I hate neutral colours, especially at this time of year, when you need livening up a bit.
See if you can get the film!

Oooh that sounds delightful! Will look for that film!

Feature wall in red/brown/orange hessian-effect wallpaper. Use these autumnal Colours for a crochet throw for the foot of the bed. A padded, buttoned, antique leather headboard would be neo-seventies and the colour would tone in. Curtains in a folk-inspired print.

Could you make the quilt yourself? Buy a jelly roll of fabric and follow one of the many tutorials online to stitch it together. Save money by wadding with a cheap fleecy blanket and backing with a cheapy sheet or duvet cover (the 100% cotton ones from IKEA are good).

That's a very good price cantspell! Nice too! Turnip What's a jelly roll? I can sew and can do patchwork in a basic fashion but don't know much about quilting

It's a roll of precut fabric strips selected to look good together, then you cut them into squares or triangles or whatever you fancy. It's quicker and cheaper than buying a load of different fabrics.

oooh!

I'm doing one with this roll at the moment. It's beyond gorgeous. Cottonpatch has a good selection but there are cheaper ones elsewhere if you hunt around.

And how many of them would I need for a big cover? Say a generous double?

At least two, I think.
You can increase the size by mixing with plains or doing a border of plain fabric.
The style that is very fashionable at the moment is to have the patterns mixed with white or cream, but that may not give the effect you're after.
