Could you do this with a router and a sheet of MDF?

like this

How would you make the MDF stable? Would it bend?

It would need to be about 1.5m tall (ish) and be fixed onto hinges as a gate

would it be for outside? cos I wouldn't have thought MDF suitable if it was.

If inside, maybe frame the MDF?

UnChartered · 10/09/2012 15:59

i wouldn't think so, the strength is in the grain of the wood, not just the thickness

No MDF not reliable outside. Get a fencer to copy it it looks fairly simple.

No - it's inside

I'll be painting it

I need an inside gate at least 1.4m tall that I can fit a lock on

& I am really struggling

I also found this but I'd need 2 so it's too expensiveSad

I have a router and some MDF, but I would make it out of wood.

Pine?

Pine would do, or plywood (if you like sanding). If you're determined to make it out of MDF, then 18mm MDF should be thick enough not to flex too much, but I'd use a jigsaw rather than a router - less dust.

Hmm yes

I wondered about making a frame & then using something much, much thinner I mean it's to replace a stairgate so that limits it's strength requirements
