Support thread for house sellers

Just what it says on the tin, really! I'm sure there must be other stressed house sellers out there? Hopefully we can band together and get some small joy of (hopefully?) seeing our houses sell so we can get a move on!

This is a thread of hand holding and mutual support for the EA dealings, weeks of silence, frantic house tidying, no-show viewings, silly offers and tough decisions. This is not for house bashing and price slating. There are plenty of other threads for that! Wink

I've been trying to sell for a year now. Had a surge of viewings earlier in the summer making the right noises, but all has gone quiet for the last few weeks.

However, we have a viewing booked for later this afternoon from someone who has sold their house and is able to proceed - wanting to move before Christmas. Currently swinging between pessimistic and optimistic, while trying not to look at the house we want to buy!

Anyone else out there? :)

Toomuchtea do you think they'll increase their offer at all? Was it ridiculously low?

I've not had any news following the viewing on Saturday. Just waiting to be put out of my misery!

I didn't see them - kids and husband sent off shopping and I was walking round in the freezing cold with the dog for an hour.

We had to bribe the kids to go out for clothes and MacDonalds! The dog and I had a lovely walk but I had wished I had wrapped up more as it was really bitter! Still no news from the EA :(

toomuchtea, if you are trying to rent with pets, some landlords will accept cats and dogs if you agree to a larger deposit and to fumigate the property when you leave, will cost about £120. The previous tenants in our current house had a cat and the landlord was ok with this but it wasn't advertised as a "pets acceptable" property, talk to the letting agents.

CuddyMum · 29/10/2012 17:25

Interesting about the no animals - we have a dog, 4 rats and a hammy. Which area are you looking at Toomuchtea?

I only know Wicksteed Park :)

I would love chickens - the house at the top of my shortlist has chickens!

Slightly off topic but would young teenagers enjoy Wicksteed Park these days?

Well still no feedback.

CuddyMum · 30/10/2012 19:48

Ah EA had chickened out and emailed me instead to say that although the viewer's wife and kids really wanted the house he didn't! Back to the drawing board!! Gutted. :(

underthemountain · 30/10/2012 22:25

Oh that's very irritating CuddyMum!
Ours has supposedly been taken off the market but it still seems to be appearing on rightmove. I am secretly wanting it to stay there in case we suddenly get a buyer! However things in my area-normally quite fast moving-are definitely stalling now.
I am seeing a few more places come up in the area I want to move to. I need a cure for my itchy feet.

CuddyMum · 30/10/2012 22:48

I'm contemplating a further and final drop of £10k (husband doesn't agree). Not sure if it will attract anyone else! Will talk to the EA tomorrow.

That's great news Toomuchtea. Will you be looking at going into rented now?

Spirael · 31/10/2012 14:48

Congratulations Toomuchtea! Grin Glad things are finally moving for you.

Really sorry to hear your viewers still decided not to go ahead, CuddyMum. :( I've been keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you, was really hoping to hear good news all around.

Not sure whether £10k will make a difference or not for you, you are probably best speaking with the EA. The same amount made a difference for us, but it's a much higher percentage in the cheap North.

Things have moved to the next stage of mania here, so apologies for the lack of posts lately! DH is running round after solicitors and mortgages, while I have four removal firms coming over to quote in the next 24 hours.

Trying to arrange utilities, media services, aerial installation and such too. Confused Not to mention redirections, insurance transfers, etc.

No word back regarding the survey done last week, so I'm assuming no news is good news and they don't plan on renegotiating? Touch wood, but things do seem to be going smoothly at the moment.

We're going to our (hopefully - we've not yet exchanged!) future home on Saturday to do some measuring and take some notes/pictures. Grin I can't wait, I might have to stroke all the walls and dribble a bit. Wink

Hello, can I join in? My house has been on the market for 18 months now. We've had loads of viewings and it appears to be priced realistically. Our estate agent is completely bewildered at why it hasn't sold, and any other estate agent we've had round is equally as confused by the whole thing.

We've had some offers, one just disappeared, one couldn't raise the deposit in the end and one was stupidly low.

I'm just getting a little exasperated with the whole process now.

Is there anyone else in a similar position?
