Approx cost of a one off deep clean before moving?

I think I need to get a company in to do a deep clean on a fairly small 2 bed flat before I can let my parents move into it. I was going to do it myself but it doesn't look like I will be able to (no equipment there, child off school etc)...

Its not a big flat and the lounge, hall and 2 bedrooms will have been freshly painted and engineered oak floor put down. They shouldn't need much attention other than a dust and hoover etc. Its really the en-suite, the main bathroom and the small ish kitchen that need doing - more because the flat has been empty for a year than actual dirt iyswim...

Anyone know roughly how much I might be looking at? I know most cleaners charge about £10 an hour but is it more on a one off?

Why don't you just get a cleaner in for a few hours? Ring an agency - because if you don't want carpets cleaned too, it shouldn't be more than the hourly rate. Maybe an hour each room?

It will be more for a one-off. Probably closer to £15 an hour for a cleaning agency and they'll probably want to do 6 hours for a deep clean. You can specify how long you want though and just tell them which jobs to skip.

I paid just under £250 for a four bed Victorian semi recently (in the South East). Think that was four girls for a day. Best money I ever spent - shame I'm going to have to do it all again once the building work is finished!

I had a company in to do a deep clean of my house a few weeks back. I paid £12 per hour for 11 hours' work (large 4 bed Edwardian semi, in the home counties).

I'm going to ring around tomorrow. I could do it myself but I just can't imagine I'm going to get all the nooks and crannies sorted.

It hasnt been lived in for a year and there is an awful lot of grime about...

Thanks all

When i got a flat cleaned before a tenant moved in the cleaning agency wanted 15 per hour and sent 2 women. I think it ended up about 160 in total. I got something similar done for our current house before we moved in but it was more as the house is bigger. I wasnt blown away by the standard of cleaning either time really but i wasnt able to do it myself so it was better than nothiing. Regular cleaners that you might have once a week tend to do a better job so that thet can keep coming back iyswim. It is also difficult for the sole cleaner to do a big one off clean as they have their regular bookings.

You should use an industrial or commercial cleaning company - not the kind of back bedroom operations that employ two women and a Henry.

The company should use steam cleaning equipment and shampoo carpets and clean windows including those on the second floor and upwards if required.

Ask local letting agents which company they use and recommend.

In London, a 4 bed 2 bath house costs about £600 for this service.

My mistake - just saw you were preparing the place for your parents rather than paying tenants. They might decide they don't need the full Rolls-Royce job that you do between tenancies or after a build, and you can save yourself a lot of money.

I'd still use a commercial cleaning company though - there's something very reassuring psychologically about moving into a new place with every single surface sparkling clean and practically sterile Wink.

Thisoldgirl..... I wonder what Henry's hourly rate is. Grin
I would also recommend a commercial cleaning company. My neighbour has her house done once a year.
You are looking at between £12 and £15 an hour.

ethelb · 07/09/2012 10:08

An end of tenency thing is about £70 for a one bed in surrey plus £30 for carpets and £20 for oven. So £120 for a one bed flat.

I called around today and one company wanted £25 an hour which seems a bit steep!

Got someone coming to look at it on Monday morning to price it and I might go with her. Its a big company. We'll see!

Ta!
