Talk to me about Leighton Buzzard.

Hello,

We are currently househunting near Herts/Cambs border but looking at other areas too. LB has come to my attention - we need to be commutable to Kings X or Euston and not too expensive, and it ticks both those boxes.

But prices seem really reasonable for a town 30 mins from London so I'm wondering if there's a catch!

Any mumsnetters live/work there? As far as I can work out Linslade is a bit nicer than Leighton, is that right? And there are two newish estates - anyone know what these are like?

We are looking for a three bed, paying up to 220,000. Would like good schools, nice area, ideally with lots of young families, preferably within an easy cycle of the station for DH.

We're going to have a drive round at the weekend but would very much appreciate any insider knowledge!

Thanks in advance.

So thanks everybody for your help.

Now, can anyone help me work out what on earth am I going to do with my 3yo over the summer before she goes to nursery in September?! Any groups/activites/friendly mumsnetters?

Hi,

I am looking into moving to Leighton Buzzard for a Fresh Start with my Husband and Son.
Please can anyone advise if there is problems with Travellers and what areas they are living in?
What is the area like to bring up a family are the new developments good to bring up children?
For example Billington Grove Development?

Might be worth looking at the Planets estate too - on LB side rather than Linslade but still nice and easier walk to town than Linslade. Sandhills and Billington Park are a bit out of the way but depends how bothered you are by that.

I can only think that it's the Luton postcode that keeps prices down!

Sorry to resurrect this post again! Looking at a potential move to the south LB development (Johnson Drive area). Can anyone recommend or otherwise? What are nursery's/preschools like in the area - then leading onto schools etc (DD is 3). Also have a 5 month old. Is there a local children's centre? I wouldn't know anyone in the area so would need a way of getting out and about and meeting new people. Many thanks

I grew up in a village outside LB, Dad commuted to London etc. As others have mentioned LB has a Waitrose and lots of useful shops it also has a great market (with fruit and veg, butcher, excellent pet food stall etc). I think it's a good option as commute is excellent compared to lots of other places.
