Ovens: built under or integrated?

We are redoing our kitchen and getting an induction hob with a double oven. Am I better off getting the oven built into a tall cupboard (so it's about waist-ish height) or put directly under the hob? We've got enough worktop space to do either. I was thinking it looked a bit nicer (and was safer for LOs) integrated into a tall cupboard, but I'm pretty used to our old cooker which is a traditional, under-the-hob one - so now I'm worrying that it might be annoying to have the oven separate to the hob.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences to help me make up my mind?
Thanks!

My mum's kitchen has a tall cupboard oven stack. I have a under the hob one since I have a tiny kitchen and needed the worktop space. An oven stack is just so much nicer! You don't have to kneel down to put things into or pull things out of the oven. You can also check how your cake is rising at eye level. If I have my dream kitchen, I'd definitely get a stack. Unless I'm getting a range cooker, ofc.

Given the choice - if you have enough workspace, definitely at eyelevel. But make sure you have worktop directly next to it - don't be too swayed by a 'wall bank' of tall cupboards which look nice but don't seem very practical to me.

Under induction hob we have drawers with (top layer) grater, cling film, chopping boards etc. Next one doen has mixing jugs and bowls, small tupperware, handblender. Bottom one has all the baking stuff - trays, cake tins, jelly moulds, flat digital scales etc. Ifind that works really well as it's all things I usually use when I'm NOT using the hob. ie you don't want to be standing at the hob and then have to step backwards to get at the pan drawer. Pan drawer goes in the bank of drawers next to the hob. Pedantic.

Also in a tall oven housing youu have space above for a combi microwave / second oven which although it was expensive. Is very very useful.

I would choose under the hob (or a range cooker), because whenever I oven cook I need to get the pan out of the oven a fair bit in order to check how it's doing/taste/turn things over/reduce sauce on the hob etc. Or I cook dishes like casseroles which I start off on the hob before going in the oven. So I need to be able to transfer dishes between hob and oven very easily.

If you are going to go for eye level, do make sure you have a heatproof surface very nearby to put hot pans on.

If you get integrated and are larger in the boob department, get one of the ovens where the door slides into the oven rather than drops down!

i had an integrated stack- with a single neff fan oven and a combined second oven/microwave above- it was expensive but worth it. if you ever use a grill, i dont understand having this at a level where you cannot see unless laying on the floor!

I would go eye level but dropped down a bit so the grill really is at neck/tit level or lower. Looking at doing that right now with a new kitchen.

EYE level every time - with big pan drawers under the oven so that you can reach pans while standing at the hob

jollydiane · 05/09/2012 21:04

eye level - I don't want to be bending down all the time. I'll like to see what I am about to burn Wink

eye level

easier to use
easier to clean

just easier really
