Hi there,

I am looking for some help at choosing a splashback for my kitchen. I am useless at making my mind up. I have a small corner kitchen which forms part of my living space. I want to have a subtle looking splashback that cover the whole area looks classy but isn't too bright that I will end up hating it.

Based on the pictures below I was wondering what colour you would go for that would compliment my grey with white speckled worktop and white units.

The other option that I am also considering is going for a pure white splashback. Would this work? I am also open to suggestions on what colour of paint would compliment these on the wall in the living room?

The options I have narrowed it down to is as follows:

Light Grey (picture)
Light Blue (picture)
Pure White (not shown - will this work?)

I like the grey. In fact, I love the grey.
I think the blue is a bit bathroomy and there is nothing else to link it with (unless you have blue crockery etc?)
I think with the cupboards being white there will be too much white.

Thank you for the super quick response. I think the grey is also a safe choice as it should go with most things. My only concern is that it may look 'dull'. Do you think this could be possible? The room has a big window at the far end but doesn't get too much light.

Here is another pic for your consideration. Sorry about the mess - wallpapering in progress.

Thanks sooo much!!!

I have a similar grey and I love it. Very glad we didn't try to get anything that stood out, it just blends effortlessly with our kitchen. We have dark grey door fronts and White corian worktops.

Don't like The blue! Grey definitely instead of the white. Agree could look dull, but you can add bright utensils, pots etc. have you considered a really bright colour? Maybe red or lime green, or if you like blue a really bright blue?

Which way round is your kitchen (north/south/east or west). It would help to know if it get sun or is more of a cool room. If it is north facing I would't go for either colour but would go for something dramatic so you have the illusion of warmth.

It faces east but doesn't get much direct sun as there are a lot of trees blocking the light. Do you think it is a mistake to go for the grey in that case?

I am reluctant to go for a bright colour as I think I may end up hating it as it forms part of my living room. I think I want to go for something subtle, however colour suggestions welcome.

Definitely the grey out of those two, but alternatively you could look at shimmery mosaic tiles with some glass and metal in, greys or creajms and whites, brighten it up? Or how about bronzed mirror? We have it and it is very warm, subtle and flattering and doesn't show water marks/smears as easily as clear mirror. Quite expensive, you will need to have toughened glass as next to hob but we are really glad we made the extra investment...there is a pic of the kitchen on my profile if you want a peek.

Thanks, do you think the grey will look nice and subtle/ classy, or do you think there is a risk it could look dull. I want it to be quite timeless.

I think the shimmery mosaic tiles could look amazing as it will add interest and could look rather classy.

If you would like a glass splash-back then I think I would go for quite a warm/bright colour, perhaps purple like this

This is a white splashback, I think this looks really classy. Do you think this would work vs

I like the grey - the doors you have look good - are they the Howdens ones?

micksom · 03/09/2012 12:45

Hi there,

Yes they are howdens units - really good quality. They still have the protective wrap on them at the mo so will hopefully look better once this is taken off.

Thanks, I think I will go for the grey!
