Anyone ever walked on a roof? How do you do it?

We want to fix a bit of loose cement near the ridge tiles on our house. It's a bungalow so not as scary/crazy as it could be! But... we've never been up on a tiled roof before and are a bit worried that all the tiles will start slipping out from under our feet and end up in a pile in the garden!
How easy is it to walk on a roof? Are the tiles usually nailed down or do they move under you when you walk? We had a tv aerial put up and the chap just put a ladder up to the wall stepped onto the roof and walked up to the chimney!
But it all looks easy in the memory - knowing my luck, I'll panic and lie down flat and slide down backwards.
Anyone got any top tips?
The roof looks like this one - with these wee red tiles:

This is obviously for people who have to work on roofs, but it might have some info you'll find useful?

Those tiles will not move if you walk on them but there is always a risk you might break some by walking on them. If you can walk along the ridge or hip tiles (the half round ones) you'll be a lot safer. Please be careful.

That HSE link is terrifying!

Actually, it would be just my luck to fix the cement and then crack half a dozen tiles getting down.

I might be going off this idea - perhaps it's better to get someone in.

it is usual, when working on a roof, to break more tiles than were broken before you started.

sometimes a tile you step on will break or slide and you will fall off.

I think I'd ask around for a recommended local roofer with an established real-life address and phone no (not an itinerant with a mobile and no address)

You're right - it has a feel of the Frank Spencers about it - I might end up putting all the tiles out in the morning!
