bed

It looks okay but might it be too flimsy for my manic five year old

Any second hand ones are miles away and collection only

I think I would want to go and have a look at a few before making a decision. That bed doesn't look that sturdy online but how would you be able to tell until you received it and out it together?

I can highly recommend: www.warrenevans.com/beds/childrens_beds/ Their beds are AMAZING and so sturdy. We've had ours now for 3 years after having previously, ahem, broken several beds. Shock Grin

If you don't see what you want, they can make it up for you as they do everything by hand in their workshop.

I would get a decent bed - I'd rather get a Thuka second hand than a cheap new one. I have a mothercare raised bed for my DS1 (5) Its quite sturdy externally, but it doesn't withstand jumping (he has managed to break a slat by jumping on it) Generally I think they are all fine for sleeping because its really the mattress that matters.

DD is in an Ikea midsleeper we bought 2nd hand on eBay for £10, my big arse has slept in it, seems sturdy enough.

DS wanted a tent bed; I hang a sheet around the sides of his brother's top bunk: Presto, tent bed!

I wanted to by a thuka pine mid sleeper for my son, but couldn't stretch to their prices! In the end I bought one from tesco direct which was reasonably priced and I was worried it wouldn't be very sturdy. When it turned up it was in a box with made by thuka allover it! What a result! I don't know if these are still available but it just goes to show that sometimes manufacturers make cheaper versions for other sellers. It was rock solid once put together and still going strong a few years down the line! HTH

"doesn't withstand jumping"

That's a no then! that cheap one would be slatless in no time

Back to the drawing board

Any other recommendations? Will check out those upthread

You could always reinforce it by adding sheets of mdf under the slats.

we bought an antique bed and as beautiful as it is, it was horrible to sleep on as the slats were so rubbish, but dh added mdf board on top and we love the bed now!
